Meghalaya Budget Session to Begin on February 28, CM Sangma to Present Budget on March 5

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is set to present the state Budget on March 5, while the Budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will commence on February 28, Assembly Speaker Thomas Sangma announced.

The 10-day session was finalised during a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting held on February 6, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Opposition Leader Mukul Sangma, and officials from the Parliamentary Affairs Department and Assembly Secretariat. Of the 10 working days, *three will be dedicated to private members’ business, while the remaining seven days will focus on government business.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sangma has ordered an immediate investigation into rising prices of essential commodities across Meghalaya. The directive was issued following an emergency meeting with the Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department and key stakeholders, reflecting growing public concerns over inflation’s impact on household budgets.

On the same day, the Chief Minister also visited the MUDA Shopping Complex, where he praised the resilience of local vendors and shopkeepers preparing to restart their businesses. “Seeing the joy and hope in the eyes of vendors as they resume operations is truly heartwarming,” he stated.
