Meghalaya Cabinet Approves Farmer Support Scheme, Regularisation of 850 Employees
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma chaired a Cabinet meeting in Sohra on January 10 under the ‘Cabinet On The Move’ initiative, during which several significant decisions were approved to benefit farmers and employees across the state.
A major highlight was the approval of the ‘CM Assure’ market intervention scheme, designed to safeguard small and marginal farmers from distress sales during periods of market price decline. This scheme will ensure fixed price procurement for both perishable and non-perishable commodities, providing stability and support when market prices fall. The program will be activated selectively, depending on market conditions, rather than operating on an annual basis.
The initiative is backed by a revolving corpus fund of ₹100 crore from the state government, with an additional ₹20 crore in funding from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. The move is expected to significantly boost the livelihoods of farmers while strengthening agricultural resilience in the state.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the regularisation of 850 Adhoc employees who were appointed prior to 2007. These employees had been omitted from the 2022 regularisation list of 3,000 Adhoc appointments across various departments, which was implemented following a Supreme Court directive.
“This decision addresses the oversight and ensures fairness in regularising employees who have served under Adhoc appointments for years,” the Chief Minister’s Office stated on X, highlighting the government’s commitment to employee welfare.
The Cabinet meeting in Sohra is part of the state’s broader initiative to bring governance closer to the people, ensuring decisions are made with direct engagement with local issues and communities.
