Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla Calls for Deputy Chief Minister’s Ouster if Involvement in Drug Activities is Proven
Northeast Desk, 4th September: Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla has called for the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar from the Cabinet, and potentially from the state, if allegations of his involvement in drug-related activities are substantiated. Shylla, who is also a legislator from the United Democratic Party (UDP) representing Khliehriat, made this statement in response to accusations brought forward by Meghalaya Congress President Vincent Pala.
While Shylla refrained from taking a definitive stance on the veracity of the allegations, he emphasized that drugs should not be tolerated in Meghalaya. He asserted that if Dhar’s involvement is confirmed, he should be expelled from the state to send a strong message against drug-related activities.
Shylla also stressed the importance of legislators having solid evidence before making accusations against their peers. He underscored the ongoing efforts by the Meghalaya government to combat drug use through various measures, initiatives, and programs aimed at eradicating the drug menace in the state.
Furthermore, Shylla highlighted that such initiatives would be ineffective if members of the government or Assembly are found to be involved in drug-related activities. He expressed confidence that state policies and laws would adequately address and penalize those involved in the illegal drug trade, ensuring that no one is above the law in Meghalaya.
