Meghalaya Chief Minister Announces Successful Evacuation of Over 500 Stranded Citizens from Bangladesh

Northeast Desk, 21st July: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced on July 20 that more than 500 citizens, primarily students from Meghalaya, successfully crossed the Bangladesh border and reached safety via Dawki and the borders of Tripura. The evacuated group also included individuals from various parts of India and neighboring countries such as Nepal and Bhutan.

Speaking to the media in Itanagar, Chief Minister Sangma expressed his gratitude for the collaborative efforts that ensured the safe return of the stranded individuals. “The coordinated actions of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, the Ministry of External Affairs, exporters, and the district administrations in border towns have been instrumental in ensuring the safety of our citizens,” he said.

During a two-day tour in Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, accompanied by his brother James Sangma, celebrated the National People’s Party’s (NPP) success in the recent assembly elections. Conrad Sangma, who is also the President of the NPP, felicitated the five NPP MLAs who emerged victorious in the elections.

Despite some setbacks, the NPP secured a significant foothold in Arunachal Pradesh, becoming the second-largest party with a 21% vote share across all 60 seats. “Our party’s emergence as a significant force in Arunachal Pradesh is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our candidates and supporters,” Sangma stated.
