Meghalaya Chief Minister Inaugurates Mallangkona Police Outpost to Enhance Border Security

Northeast Desk, 21st June: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on June 21, inaugurated the Mallangkona Police Outpost in West Khasi Hills district, emphasizing its critical role in enhancing security near the Assam border and preventing untoward incidents. Addressing the gathering, CM Sangma highlighted the outpost’s significance, stating it fulfills a longstanding demand of local residents and underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety.

“We are actively engaging with the Assam government to resolve areas of differences, aiming to address six more such areas,” Sangma assured, emphasizing the state’s dedication to resolving border-related issues. He reaffirmed that the safety and security of residents, particularly those in border areas, remain a top priority for the government.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, MLA R Momin, DGP Meghalaya Idashisha Nongrang, MDC Gigur Myrthong, and senior police officials. Sangma commended the community’s involvement in constructing the outpost, highlighting their contribution as a testament to community participation in developmental projects.

“This project, funded through the Police Infrastructure Renovation Fund (PIRF), exemplifies community-government collaboration, setting a positive precedent for similar initiatives across the state,” Sangma remarked, urging other communities to actively participate in such endeavors.

The Mallangkona Police Outpost, constructed at a cost of Rs 17.5 lakhs, was initiated in 2019 under the PIRF scheme. Its establishment marks a significant step towards bolstering local security infrastructure and ensuring the well-being of residents in border regions.
