Meghalaya Chief Minister Inaugurates Rongjeng Model Degree College, Honors Late PA Sangma
Northeast, August 19 – Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the Rongjeng Model Degree College in the East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, marking a significant step in enhancing educational opportunities in the region. The new institution, built at a cost of Rs 12 crores under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) 2.0 scheme, aims to serve as a key educational hub for local youth.
During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Sangma highlighted the importance of the college in providing new opportunities for the youth of Rongjeng and its surrounding areas. “This college represents our commitment to advancing education and development in the region,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma, Advisor to the Education Department HM Shangpliang, and local MLA Jim Sangma, among other notable figures.
Chief Minister Sangma also announced plans to honor the late PA Sangma, a respected political leader from the region. “We dedicate this institution to the people of Rongjeng and to the legacy of our late leader P.A. Sangma, who envisioned a college in this area,” Sangma stated. A naming committee will be established to officially name the college after the former Lok Sabha Speaker.
