Meghalaya: CID Takes Over Investigation into Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura Road Scam
Shillong: In a significant development, Meghalaya’s Director General of Police (DGP), Idashisha Nongrang, has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the investigation of a multi-crore rupees scam related to the construction of the Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura road.
The decision follows the filing of a case against nine individuals, including contractors, senior government engineers, and corporate officials, who are accused of misappropriating funds allocated for the project. Originally set to be completed by 2014, the project has faced numerous delays and cost revisions, now totaling Rs 2,366.77 crore.
The case was filed by the Chief Engineer of the PWD (Roads) in September 2024, upon the directions of the state government. Reports suggest that the investigation was delayed due to technical challenges and the need for an extensive review of documents. The CID’s involvement is expected to accelerate the resolution of the case.
