Meghalaya CM Advocates Adolescent Development and Healthcare Improvements

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma participated in the Meghalaya Programme for Adolescent Wellbeing, Empowerment, and Resilience (MPOWER) workshop in Tura, West Garo Hills district, emphasizing the state’s commitment to addressing the developmental needs of adolescents.

MPOWER, an initiative spearheaded by the Meghalaya government, aims to bridge critical gaps in adolescent development. The programme focuses on equipping young individuals with tools to navigate transitional growth phases effectively.

A tailored Comprehensive Adolescent Development Framework is central to this initiative, prioritizing Socio-Emotional and Mental Wellbeing, Physical Health, Cognitive Capacity, and Career Aspirations. These pillars are designed to empower adolescents to thrive in diverse life stages.

In another milestone, Chief Minister Sangma inaugurated the First Referral Unit (FRU) at the Ranikor Community Health Center (CHC) in South West Khasi Hills District.

The FRU is equipped to provide emergency obstetric care, surgical services, and critical care, with a strong focus on the safety of mothers, infants, and individuals requiring urgent medical attention.

Both initiatives reflect the Meghalaya government’s dual focus on empowering its youth and enhancing healthcare infrastructure, reinforcing its commitment to holistic development and well-being.
