Meghalaya CM Assures Swift Action Amid Relentless Downpour in State
Northeast Desk, 6th May: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma took to the microblogging site X on May 6 to assure the people of Meghalaya of swift action amidst relentless downpour and hailstorms affecting parts of the state.
In his message, Chief Minister Sangma affirmed being in constant communication with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and concerned District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMA) to coordinate immediate responses to the adverse climatic conditions.
Highlighting the efforts of the SDMA and DDMA in distributing relief materials and providing necessary assistance to affected individuals, Chief Minister Sangma mentioned that the assessment of damage to personal properties is underway.
“While the assessment of damage to personal property is ongoing, the DDMAs have been instructed to distribute urgent relief materials to the affected households,” he stated.
The India Meteorological Department’s forecast indicates a continuation of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds across Northeast India until May 7. Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Previously, Chief Minister Sangma had acknowledged the widespread damage caused by strong winds and heavy rainfall across the state, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to mitigate the impact on affected communities.
