Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma Empowers Healthcare with 425 New Appointments
Northeast Desk, 8th March: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma presided over a significant ceremony where he handed over appointment letters to 425 newly recruited junior specialists, medical officers, and dental surgeons, designated for various healthcare institutions across the state.
The induction ceremony, held at the State Convention Centre, witnessed the presence of Health Minister Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh and PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak.
Addressing the newly appointed healthcare professionals, the Chief Minister emphasized the transparency of the recruitment process, stating, “You are here because you are capable and you are the best and you have done well in the exam.”
Highlighting improvements in the recruitment process, Sangma discussed the challenges faced in the past, stating, “We have segregated the recruitment process by establishing a board for education and health, which has simplified the process.”
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to prioritizing healthcare, Sangma revealed, “Health is given priority with close to 8 per cent of the total state budget earmarked for health. The budget for the health department is the highest in the country, as we aim to strengthen and overhaul the health sector.”
Furthermore, Sangma outlined plans to enhance healthcare infrastructure, stating, “Rather than having separate housing complexes for different departments, the government has decided to create a housing complex to accommodate doctors, engineers, and other government servants.”
Sangma also discussed initiatives to upgrade healthcare facilities across the state, including a facelift for primary health centers, community health centers, and hospitals. Additionally, he announced the imminent launch of a patient management system for better monitoring of patients’ conditions, following a successful pilot project in Ribhoi district.
