Meghalaya CM Conrad K. Sangma Leads 78th Independence Day Celebrations with Awards and Tributes
Northeast, 15th August: Shillong’s Polo Grounds hosted Meghalaya’s 78th Independence Day celebrations, led by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. The event featured a grand parade with contingents from the Border Security Force, CRPF, and local school bands, marking a significant display of the state’s unity and pride.
During the ceremony, CM Sangma honored several distinguished individuals for their exemplary service:
- Police Medals for Meritorious Service: Dr. Sacheng R. Marak, Assistant Inspector General of Police, and Havildar Anil Kumar Singh.
- Fire Service Medals for Meritorious Service: Raju Ram Rabha and Bhupesh Ch. Hajong.
- Home Guards & Civil Defence Medals: Ram Charles Lamare and Prafulla Basumatary.
- Director General Commendation Certificates: Awarded to 15 personnel, including MK Sangma and RP Khongwar.
The Chief Minister also recognized 48 scholars under the Chief Minister’s Research Grant (CMRG) for their research contributions in arts, culture, and indigenous communities.
In the March Past competition, Holy Cross Secondary School, St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, and Auxilium Higher Secondary School secured the top three prizes. The celebrations included tributes to Shillong Municipal Board workers and a vibrant array of cultural performances, showcasing the state’s rich heritage and commitment to excellence.
