Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma Highlights Media’s Role in Policy and Public Perception at Inaugural Meghalaya Media Meet

Northeast Desk, 20th September: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma attended the first-ever Meghalaya Media Meet, themed “Redefining Journalism in the Digital Age,” with the state’s press fraternity. The event focused on the evolving landscape of journalism in the digital era and the media’s crucial influence on policymaking and public perception.

In a post on the microblogging platform X, CM Sangma praised the media’s significant role in democracy, stating, “Media have the power of influence in policymaking, in shaping public perception, and in ensuring accountability for governments. Therefore, they play a pivotal role in our democracy.”

The meeting also addressed growing concerns over sensationalism in journalism, emphasizing the need for responsible and ethical reporting. Participants discussed the importance of skill enhancement to keep pace with rapid changes in digital media.

CM Sangma further highlighted that the media meet serves as a platform for collaboration between the government and the press, aiming to foster positive change. He expressed his appreciation for the contributions of the press fraternity to the democratic process, underscoring their importance in holding governments accountable.
