Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma Inspects Construction of Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge, India’s Longest Bridge Over Water
Northeast Desk, 20th December: Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Conrad Sangma recently inspected the ongoing construction of the Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge, set to become India’s longest bridge over water. Connecting Assam and Meghalaya over the Brahmaputra River, this four-lane, 19-kilometre marvel of engineering is expected to be completed by September 2028.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a prominent infrastructure company, is spearheading the construction, with funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) amounting to Rs 3,200 crore. Beyond its engineering prowess, the bridge symbolizes the growing connectivity in the North-East.
Upon completion, the Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge will significantly slash the distance between Assam and Meghalaya by approximately 203 kilometres, fostering better transport connectivity within the North-East and across India. This strategic project holds immense economic potential, easing the movement of people and goods and potentially transforming the local economic landscape.
Chief Minister Sangma’s inspection reflects the state government’s dedication to ensuring the timely progress of this vital infrastructure venture. Surpassing the length of the current longest Indian bridge, the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge, the Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge is poised to become a crucial link, driving growth and development in the region.
