Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma Mourns Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Passing

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has expressed profound grief over the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, lauding his pivotal role in shaping India’s economic landscape.

Singh passed away at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Thursday evening after being admitted in critical condition.

Taking to social media, CM Sangma said, “Deeply saddened by the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh ji. On behalf of the people of Meghalaya, I offer heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and supporters.” He praised Singh as a leader who rose from humble beginnings to leave an indelible mark on India’s economic and political journey.

Dr. Singh, who served two consecutive terms as prime minister from 2004 to 2014, is remembered as a key architect of India’s economic liberalization during the 1990s. His reforms under the PV Narasimha Rao government opened up India’s economy to global markets, setting the stage for rapid growth.

“He will be remembered for his vast contributions to the nation’s growth,” Sangma stated, emphasizing the enduring inspiration Singh’s legacy will provide to the nation.

Singh is survived by his wife, Gurcharan Kaur, and three daughters. Tributes have poured in from across political lines, reflecting the widespread respect for his leadership, integrity, and scholarship.
