Meghalaya CM: Next round of Assam-Meghalaya Border Talks Soon
Guwahati: The Chief minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma announced that the next round of Assam border issues will be held soon.
It should be noted that Meghalaya and Assam have started a second round of negotiations to settle six areas of disagreement about their shared border.
The chief minister of Meghalaya stated, “We would endeavour to meet the regional committees and the chief ministers together to move the talks forward within the next few weeks.”
The six points of contention that the second round of negotiations is addressing are located in the Meghalayan districts of West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills.
Meghalaya and Assam share an 885 km long international border.
Six additional contested regions out of a total of twelve were discussed in the first round of negotiations and then the two states signed an MoU.
Villagers in Assam and Meghalaya protested the boundary agreement reached during the first round of border talks, feeling let down by it.
