Meghalaya CM: NPP Ensured State’s Peace & Development

Guwahati: Chief minister of Meghalaya Conrad K. Sangma claimed that the NPP-led state government had taken initiative and gone above and beyond to make sure that peace and development predominated in the state.

Conrad Sangma thanked the state’s intelligence units for working relentlessly to thwart anti-social behaviour and foster peace during his speech to an election rally in Tura on Sunday.

“Many might have thought that Meghalaya is prone to insurgency and will remain the same, however, we were committed to ensure that peace and tranquillity prevails in the State. Our intelligence is always on alert to extortion and other anti-social activities, and we have been able to bust such cases to ensure that such activities do not occur,” Conrad Sangma said.

The NPP head claimed that following several incidents of the violence supported by pressure organisations in Shillong, people are terrified to stroll through the city’s streets.

“There are many instances of law and order problems, but it doesn’t mean that the Government has been silent. Our police have worked overtime to overcome the situation to ensure that peace could be restored during such a situation,” the chief minister assured.

Meanwhile, CM Sangma emphasised that Meghalaya was ranked first in the nation for its startup ecosystem, increased its immunisation ranking from 27th to second today, and linked 2.5 lakh or more homes to water pipes through the JJM scheme, up from just 4,000 in 2018.

“Our Government has worked on a mission mode with set targets to ensure that Meghalaya is put on a fast track mode,” he said and added that the people have changed their mindset to achieve the desired targets.

Speaking on the changes in his South Tura constituency over the past five years, he noted that when many communities in South Tura received the street lights, community centres and access to water that they had requested, one village even sought a swimming pool.

Meghalaya’s legislative elections are scheduled on February 27. On March 2, the results will be made public. The results will be declared on March 2.
