Meghalaya CM’s Wife Mehtab Chandee Among Top Contenders for Gambegre Bypolls

Northeast Desk, 26th June: Mehtab Chandee, the wife of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, has emerged as one of the leading contenders for the upcoming Gambegre bypolls, as reported by the media. Following a significant loss in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the National People’s Party (NPP) is ramping up its preparations for the Gambegre bypolls, with party leaders evaluating potential candidates.

Media reports indicate that the ruling Meghalaya party is considering more than ten potential candidates for the bypolls. The list includes notable names such as CM Sangma’s wife Mehtab Chandee, his sister Agatha Sangma, and his brother James PK Sangma. While the final list of contenders is yet to be confirmed, an NPP leader cited in media reports mentioned that party workers are particularly supportive of Mehtab Chandee and Agatha Sangma running in the upcoming elections.

Other potential candidates on the NPP’s list include Linekar K Sangma, Rakesh Sangma, Ambrose Ch. Marak, and Nehru Sangma. The selection of candidates is a crucial step for the NPP as it seeks to regain ground and secure a victory in the Gambegre bypolls.
