Meghalaya Commemorates National Unity Day Honoring Sardar Patel’s Legacy

Shillong – Meghalaya Chief Secretary DP Wahlang led officials in taking the National Unity Day pledge at the Main Secretariat, marking the 148th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

This year’s celebration spotlights Raigad Fort, linking Maharashtra’s historical symbol to Patel’s unification efforts.

Revered as the “Iron Man of India,” Patel was instrumental in integrating over 500 princely states into the Indian Union post-independence, preventing national fragmentation. Established in 2014, National Unity Day celebrates Patel’s legacy in building a cohesive India.

State officials highlighted Patel’s enduring influence on national harmony, with events across Meghalaya fostering unity and cultural understanding. This observance reinforces his vision of a united India, bridging diverse communities across the country.
