Meghalaya: DDUCC Equips 20 Local Youth with Plumbing Skills to Meet State’s Infrastructure Needs
Shillong — In a bid to address the growing demand for skilled labour in Meghalaya’s expanding infrastructure sector, twenty local youth successfully completed an intensive six-day plumbing training programme at the Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College (DDUCC).
The initiative, conducted from February 11-18, focused on equipping participants with practical skills in pipeline installation, trench digging, and essential plumbing repairs for both residential and commercial buildings.
Speaking at the valedictory ceremony, Prof. S.M. Sungoh, Principal In-charge of DDUCC, emphasised the importance of such training in bridging the skills gap. “There’s a rising demand for skilled plumbers due to rapid infrastructure development in our region. This training aligns perfectly with both NEP 2020 guidelines and local employment needs,” he stated.
Latu Nartiang, Branch Manager of Meghalaya Co-op. Apex Bank’s Ummulong Branch, highlighted the financial opportunities available for trained plumbers, encouraging participants to leverage their skills for self-employment and entrepreneurship. Programme Coordinator Wolnish Rymbai also noted the strong community response to DDUCC’s vocational training initiatives, underlining the college’s commitment to fostering employability through skill-based education.
A constituent of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), DDUCC continues to expand its vocational education offerings in alignment with regional development needs and the National Education Policy 2020, paving the way for greater employment opportunities in Meghalaya’s growing economy.
