Meghalaya: Duo Apprehended in North Garo Hills for Alleged Anti-India Social Media Posts

Shillong: Two individuals have been taken into custody by the Meghalaya police in the North Garo Hills district following accusations of disseminating anti-India content on social media platforms.

The arrests were made at their respective homes, located in separate villages within the jurisdiction of the Bajengdoba police station.

The individuals are alleged to have posted a video on Facebook wherein they were reportedly heard shouting slogans in the Garo language that were critical of India and expressed support for Pakistan.

The action by the police was initiated based on a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the district administration on May 15 against the two individuals. Consequently, a case was registered against them, leading to their arrest yesterday from their residences, according to a senior police official in the district.

This incident follows the arrest of another individual in the East Khasi Hills district just a week after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. That arrest was related to the posting of hate content on the individual’s Facebook page.
