Meghalaya Education Department Enforces TIMS App Attendance Amid SSA Teachers’ Agitation

Shillong: The Meghalaya Education Department has issued a directive requiring all Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers to mark their attendance through the Teacher Information Management System (TIMS) application. This move comes amid an ongoing indefinite agitation by over 13,000 SSA teachers demanding a 100 percent hike in their salaries.

Swapnil Tembe, the State Project Director of SSA, emphasized the need for consistent use of the TIMS app, highlighting that current attendance records are “unsatisfactory.” He stated that the application is essential for maintaining accurate registration of SSA teachers across various districts, making regular use of the platform crucial to monitor teacher presence.

The issue of salaries has been a contentious point. Last week, Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma addressed the demands of SSA teachers, announcing that the state government is drafting a plan to address the salary concerns. He urged the teachers to prioritize children’s education and resume their duties, assuring them that the government is committed to finding a resolution.

Minister Sangma also mentioned that a crucial meeting will be convened with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to deliberate on the situation, signaling the government’s intention to resolve the dispute promptly.
