Meghalaya Ex-CM Mukul Sangma Gets Life Threat on Social Media

Guwahati: Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Mukul Sangma has received death threats on social media.

The former CM wrote to the state’s chief secretary, DP Wahlang, alleging life threats after some NPP supporters allegedly threatened to set fire to his residence in revenge for the ongoing events surrounding the creation of the state’s new government.

The National People’s Party (NPP), which won 26 seats in the 60-member assembly including an unprecedented 18 in Garo Hills, is having difficulty creating a new government despite having the apparent backing of 32 MLAs, including 2 BJP MLAs, 2 Independent MLAs, and 2 HSPDP MLAs.

Mukul has now joined hands with the other non-NPP and non-BJP MLAs to form an alliance in an effort to build a non-NPP and non-BJP government in the state.

The departure of the HSPDP from the united opposition has generated a commotion in Shillong circles, notwithstanding the fact that they previously boasted of 30 MLAs.

Several pressure organisations have given the two HSPDP MLAs until March 6 to revoke their support.

Apparently, many Garo Hills supporters were not pleased with this most recent development, as seen by their angry social media posts.

A user named Jeancher Sangma had posted on social media encouraging people to burn the former CM’s effigy and throw stones at his home. Mukul Sangma took offence to this and promptly brought it up to the Meghalaya Chief Secretary, requesting that action be taken against such solicitation to harm him.

Mukul informed, “Some people are engaged in criminal conspiracy and are trying to incite communal riots. They are also threatening personal harm to me. I have reported the same to the CS and sought action against those involved.”
