Meghalaya Extends Land Lease Period to Boost Development

Shillong: The Meghalaya government, in a significant move to accelerate development and infrastructure projects, has approved an extension of the lease period for government land.

The decision, taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, aims to provide long-term certainty to investors and developers. The lease period for government land has been extended from the current 30 years to a more substantial 60 years.

Furthermore, to encourage investment and facilitate large-scale projects, the government has introduced a provision for an additional 30-year renewal for projects falling under various investment modes, as specified in government policies.

In a separate development, the Cabinet also approved a set of new rules to streamline operations across different sectors. While the full operationalization of Shillong Medical College is still underway, the Meghalaya Health Services (Academic) Rules, 2024, have been approved.

Additionally, the Cabinet gave its nod to the Meghalaya Dental Health Service Rules, 2024, which are expected to expedite pending matters such as promotions, recruitments, and service conditions for dental professionals employed by the state government.
