Meghalaya Fights Hard but Falls Short Against Railways in U-23 Trophy

Shillong: Meghalaya’s young cricketers displayed resilience and skill in their second BCCI U-23 Men’s State A Trophy match against Railways, but ultimately fell short by 95 runs.

Despite the defeat, the team showcased some impressive individual performances, particularly from pacer Abhishek Kumar and captain Kevin Christopher.

Opting to bowl first, Meghalaya faced a strong start from Railways’ openers, who put on a 194-run partnership. However, Abhishek Kumar turned the tide with a sensational bowling spell, claiming five wickets for 45 runs. His fiery spell, which included a near hat-trick, disrupted Railways’ momentum and restricted them to 301/9 in their 50 overs.

In reply, Meghalaya’s batting unit showed promise but couldn’t sustain the required run rate. Captain Kevin Christopher top-scored with a well-crafted 52, while Josiah Momin contributed a quickfire 36. However, the team’s efforts were not enough, and they were eventually bowled out for 206.

Meghalaya will now shift their focus to their next match against Baroda on Thursday, aiming to rebound from their initial loss to Maharashtra.
