Meghalaya Foils Illegal Entry Bid: Four Arrested, Border Vigilance Heightened

Shillong: In a swift and decisive operation, Meghalaya police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), have apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly entering India without valid documents. The joint team also took into custody two individuals accused of facilitating their illegal cross-border movement, highlighting the ongoing commitment to national security in the region.

Acting on a critical intelligence input, a combined unit of the BSF and Meghalaya Police intercepted a Guwahati-bound vehicle on the Mawlai bypass, situated near Shillong. The occupants of the car were promptly detained for interrogation. During questioning, the two Bangladeshi individuals were unable to produce any valid documents, leading to their immediate arrest. Further investigation revealed that the other two apprehended individuals had actively assisted in their illicit entry into Indian territory. All four were reportedly en route to Guwahati.

A BSF official lauded the successful operation, underscoring it as a testament to the “unwavering vigilance, operational efficiency, and dedication” of BSF Meghalaya in safeguarding national security. The incident further exemplifies the robust synergy and coordinated efforts between the BSF and the Meghalaya Police in their shared objective to combat transborder crimes and prevent infiltration along the India-Bangladesh boundary.

According to data from the BSF Meghalaya Frontier, a total of 78 Bangladeshi nationals have been apprehended in the first quarter of 2025 alone, a clear indicator of the intensified operations aimed at curbing illegal infiltration. Authorities have unequivocally reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing surveillance and strengthening coordinated enforcement measures to counter such illegal movements in the sensitive border region.
