Meghalaya Gears Up for Mock Air Raid Drill Tonight

Shillong: Citizens across Meghalaya are being urged to familiarize themselves with crucial instructions issued by the Civil Defence and Home Guards Department as the state prepares for a significant mock air raid precaution exercise scheduled for this evening.

The official announcement details the precise sequence of events and underscores the necessity of public participation.

The exercise will be initiated precisely at 6:28 pm with the sounding of an “Action Warning” siren. This initial signal will consist of distinctive “fluctuating or warbling notes” and will resonate for a duration of two minutes. Upon hearing this alert, all residents are instructed to immediately seek shelter indoors, treating the siren as a genuine warning of imminent air raids.

Following the “Action Warning,” a simulated blackout will commence at 6:30 pm. The official directive explicitly requests that “citizens are requested to switch off inverters for 2 minutes” to fully replicate blackout conditions. However, the advisory also clarifies that “vehicular traffic will not be affected and move about as normal” during this brief period of simulated darkness.

The mock air raid precaution exercise will culminate at 6:32 pm with the sounding of an “All Clear” signal. This concluding siren will feature a steady pitch and will last for one minute, officially marking the end of both the simulated air raid and the accompanying two-minute blackout.

The Meghalaya Civil Defence and Home Guards have stressed the paramount importance of public compliance with these instructions. The official statement highlights that this exercise is being “carried out for public safety and our Nation’s security,” emphasizing the collective responsibility of all citizens to fully cooperate and ensure the drill effectively achieves its vital objectives.
