Meghalaya Government Allots 10 Acres of Land to CRPF for Permanent Base
Guwahati: The Meghalaya government has given them the allotment letter for 10 acres of land in the New Shillong Township for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to establish a permanent base.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced following a meeting with the CRPF that the government has decided to grant the CRPF an allotment letter for 10 acres of property in the New Shillong Township neighbourhood close to the IIM.
The chief minister added that it would “further facilitate” the process of moving the temporary camps and moving the various CRPF members to the permanent land that was promised to them.
He added that the CRPF has been pleading with the government of Meghalaya for a long time to give them a permanent home and camp.
The numerous battalions and companies of the CRPF have been kept in various parts of the city and state on a temporary basis, an arrangement that was sustained for a very long time, he said, because a permanent location had not yet been assigned.
The Chief Minister stated that the relocation of the CRPF camps to their new permanent location will start as soon as the State Government receives final consent from the federal government to occupy the land it has been given.
The meeting also covered the best course of action for using the land after the CRPF vacates its temporary camps.
Sangma claimed that after the CRPF camp in Mawlai is abandoned, the government may consider establishing arts and culture centres there as well as opportunities for business and skill development.
The Chief Minister declared, “We had a very fruitful discussion and we are confident that very soon the sanction from MHA will come for the taking over of the land by the CRPF which has been granted by us today.”
