Meghalaya Government Appeals to HNLC for Peace Talks, Encourages Involvement in Dialogue: Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong

Northeast Desk, 23rd November: In a significant move towards resolving the longstanding issues, the Meghalaya government has extended an earnest appeal to the banned militant outfit, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), urging them to participate in talks with the Central and state government.

Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong emphasized the government’s clear intentions during the only formal meeting held between the two sides. Speaking to reporters, Deputy CM Tynsong highlighted that both the central and state governments had appointed interlocutors, providing them with full authority.

“The formal talks have happened once. In that formal talk, both the central and the state governments have requested the members of the HNLC to please allow the talks to continue, because the decisions to be taken should be only by the top leaders,” stated Deputy CM Tynsong.

He further conveyed, “The moment they are ready, please come back; the door is open for talks. Go back and share with your top leaders, and our opinion from the government side (both Centre and state) is very clear.”

This appeal from the Meghalaya government aims to encourage HNLC to actively engage in dialogue, fostering the prospect of lasting peace in the state.
