Meghalaya Government Floats Tenders for Umngot Riverfront Development Amid Pending Shillong-Dawki Road Repairs
Shillong: The Meghalaya government has issued tenders for the development of the Umngot Riverfront, a project estimated at ₹27.5 crore, amid delays in the repair work on the Shillong-Dawki road. The riverfront development is expected to be completed within two years.
The tender outlines plans for constructing pathways, a pedestrian bridge, amenity buildings, and utility infrastructure to enhance the popular tourist destination.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had earlier revealed that the Shillong-Dawki road project had been divided into three packages by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL):
• Umshyrpi Bridge to Upper Shillong
• Mylliem to Pynursla
• Lower Pynursla to Dawki
While progress has been made on the road till Upper Shillong, repair work on other stretches and the Dawki bridge construction have faced delays, primarily due to persistent rains.
NHIDCL officials have confirmed that the final stretch of the Shillong-Dawki road will feature a four-lane configuration, enhancing connectivity and safety. The combined infrastructure projects aim to boost tourism and local economic development in the region.
