Northeast Desk, 6th May: In response to recent severe weather conditions causing structural damage across certain parts of Meghalaya, the state government has initiated swift relief efforts to address the situation effectively.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to social media platform X to highlight the extensive damage caused by strong winds and heavy rainfall, urging citizens to prioritize safety and report emergencies promptly.
The India Meteorological Department’s forecast indicates the likelihood of continued heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in Northeast India until May 7. Meghalaya, along with other northeastern states, is expected to experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall over the next seven days.
The recent weather turmoil follows a devastating rainstorm on April 1, which wreaked havoc across various areas, particularly impacting villages in Eastern West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills Districts. The storm inflicted extensive damage to residential properties and tragically resulted in loss of life.
With the government actively engaged in relief operations, citizens are urged to remain indoors, prioritize safety, and promptly report any emergencies to the authorities. This message underscores the collective commitment of the Meghalaya Government to ensuring the well-being and resilience of its citizens during challenging times.
