Meghalaya Government Plans Job Security Policy for SSA Teachers Amid Age Limit Relaxation for Recruitment
Tura, Meghalaya — Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has reassured over 13,000 Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers of upcoming policy measures aimed at providing job security, addressing their long-standing demand for regularisation.
This announcement follows a productive meeting with the Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) delegation, where CM Sangma committed to detailed discussions before finalising the policy framework.
The meeting comes after MSSASA issued a two-month ultimatum to the state, pressing for a solution to secure SSA teachers’ positions. MSSASA President Aristotle C. Rymbai expressed optimism following the meeting, hopeful that concrete steps toward job security will soon be implemented.
Earlier, on October 24, the Meghalaya cabinet approved a significant policy change to raise the upper age limit to 45 years for SSA teachers seeking permanent government teaching roles. This move, announced by Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma, specifically applies to SSA teachers recruited through official channels, affecting appointments at all levels, from lower primary to higher secondary schools.
The developments signal Meghalaya’s commitment to enhancing job stability for SSA teachers, addressing both age-limit barriers and employment insecurity.
