This precautionary measure aims to safeguard students and staff from the adverse weather conditions.

The State Disaster Management Authority has issued a stringent advisory, alerting residents about the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall and squally winds with speeds ranging from 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph. These severe conditions are expected to impact isolated areas across East Jaintia, East Khasi, South West Khasi, West Jaintia, and West Khasi hills districts over the next 24 hours.

“To avoid any untoward incidents, all schools under East Khasi Hills District shall remain closed on May 28,” stated the directive from the deputy commissioner.

This decision to suspend educational activities is a proactive step to ensure the safety and well-being of the community. By closing schools, the government aims to mitigate potential risks and disruptions caused by the impending cyclonic conditions, prioritizing the safety of students and educational staff.
