Meghalaya Government to Issue Tender for Pinewood Hotel Renovation

Northeast Desk, 13th June: The Meghalaya government announced on June 12 its plan to issue a tender for the interior renovation of the historic Pinewood Hotel, pending final approval of the detailed project report (DPR).

BL Lyngdoh of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) addressed circulating rumours by clarifying that no contracts have been awarded to Vikram Singhania. “We will initiate the tender process once the DPR is approved. It will be conducted transparently, allowing local contractors to participate,” Lyngdoh stated.

He assured that eligible local contractors would be given preference according to departmental criteria, ensuring community involvement and benefit. “We are committed to transparency and integrity in this project,” Lyngdoh emphasised.

The renovation aims to enhance the hotel’s facilities while preserving its historical charm. Planned refurbishments include the Banquet Hall, Kitchen, Restaurant, Restaurant extension, Coffee shop, Lobby & Reception, and Conference room. Upgrades will also be made to furniture, lighting, and HVAC systems.

Currently, the DPR is in preparation, with initial assessments involving labourers dismantling parts of the ceiling and wooden floors under consultant supervision.
