Meghalaya Govt. Pushes for Digital Connectivity, Cracks Down on Drug Menace

The Meghalaya government, in a concerted effort to bridge the digital divide and combat the rising drug menace, held a series of high-level meetings.

Led by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the government reviewed the progress of the ‘Last Mile Connectivity’ initiative, focusing on the implementation of the International Internet Gateway and MSWAN, as well as the establishment of a new State Data Center. The meeting also addressed the status of the Tura Tech Park and the distribution of M-Tabs and laptops to students.

In a separate development, the Cabinet, in a meeting with the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), approved the formation of the Meghalaya Drugs Control Wing (MDCW) to intensify the fight against drugs. The ANTF is set to implement stringent measures, including creating a database of offenders, identifying drug hotspots, and launching a dedicated WhatsApp helpline.
