Meghalaya Greenlights Rs 30 Crore Living Root Tourism Hub, Music Retreat Follows with Rs 40 Crore Boost
Shillong: In a move aimed at bolstering regional tourism and celebrating the state’s unique natural and cultural heritage, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has announced a significant investment in the Pynursla region.
During a recent visit to Wahlyngkhat, Sangma unveiled plans for a Rs 30 crore Living Root Experience Center, designed to elevate the tourist experience around the area’s famed Living Root Bridges. This development will not only enhance accessibility but also ensure the preservation of these natural wonders.
Sangma, in a social media update, highlighted the dual focus of the initiative, emphasizing both the infrastructural improvements and the cultural enrichment aspects. The project includes the comprehensive upgrade of the trekking routes leading to the Living Root Bridges, promising a more seamless and enjoyable journey for visitors. This upgrade addresses the growing need for enhanced tourist facilities while maintaining the ecological integrity of the site.
Further expanding on the cultural dimension, the Chief Minister detailed plans for a Rs 40 crore Wahkhen Residential Music Retreat. This facility is envisioned as a center for immersive cultural experiences, dedicated to showcasing and preserving Meghalaya’s rich indigenous musical traditions. The retreat aims to provide a platform for both local artists and visitors to engage with the state’s vibrant musical heritage.
The Living Root Experience Center will be developed under a Community Public Private Partnership (CPPP) model, ensuring active participation from local communities. This collaborative approach underscores the government’s commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment, ensuring that the benefits of tourism are shared widely. The dual projects signal a significant investment in Meghalaya’s tourism and cultural sectors, promising to create a lasting impact on the region.
