Meghalaya Hit by Heavy Rainfall, Causing Major Disruptions on NH-6

Northeast Desk, 17th June: Incessant rainfall in Meghalaya has wreaked havoc across the state, leading to flash floods and landslides that have severely disrupted traffic on the crucial National Highway 6 (NH-6).

The situation turned critical in the Lumshnong area, where a portion of NH-6 was damaged due to landslides triggered by the relentless downpour. As a result, all vehicular movement was initially halted on the highway to ensure commuter safety. Currently, one-way traffic has reopened, but commuters are advised to drive with caution.

On June 16, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma assessed the ground situation in the East Jaintia Hills district, one of the worst-affected areas. Authorities have advised travelers to exercise utmost caution while traversing the affected stretches and to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
