Meghalaya: IIM Shillong Hosts Inaugural Anveshan 2025 Model UN, Sets Stage for Future Diplomats
Shillong: IIM Shillong successfully concluded its first-ever Model United Nations (MUN) conference, Anveshan 2025, marking a major milestone in its commitment to fostering global leadership and diplomacy.
The event, held in partnership with Punjab National Bank (PNB), brought together students from across the country to engage in high-level discussions on global policy, governance, and strategic decision-making.
The conference featured two key committees—the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which debated the influence of non-state actors in Middle Eastern governance, and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), where delegates navigated a real-time crisis simulation. The event tested participants’ analytical abilities and diplomatic skills in resolving pressing global issues.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Kaustubh Sonalkar, a renowned policy expert and author, emphasized the role of young minds in shaping international policies. As a token of appreciation, he presented his bestselling book, Fetch Your Own Coffee, to IIM Shillong Director Prof DP Goyal.
The conference recognized outstanding performances, awarding:
• Best Delegate (UNGA) – Sanskriti Modgal (St. Edmund’s), representing Saudi Arabia
• Best Delegate (UNSC) – Md Rezaul Islam (St. Anthony’s), representing the United States
Several other participants received High Commendation and Special Mention awards for their contributions.
Beyond policy discussions, Anveshan 2025 fostered networking opportunities, faculty interactions, and cultural exchanges, culminating in a bonfire night and musical performances. With its successful debut, the event is poised to become a premier MUN in the years ahead, reinforcing IIM Shillong’s mission to develop future leaders in diplomacy and governance.
