Meghalaya Karate Team Set to Compete in National Championship
Shillong: A contingent of 15 karatekas from Meghalaya will participate in the Karate India Organisation’s U-21/Senior National Championship 2025, commencing today in Hyderabad. The three-day event will be held at the Kachibowli Indoor Stadium and conclude on March 29.
The Meghalaya team has been sent by the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association and will be led by coach Donboklang Lyngdoh and manager Rodrick Syiem. The team comprises a mix of experienced and young athletes, who will compete in various weight categories.
The Meghalaya contingent includes Kynjailin L Mawnai, Carene Sohiong, Ram Lanong, Gideon Tympuin, Kynpham Kharkongor, Rebeka Nongspung, Larisha Kurbah, Barisha Kharbani, Nangkitbok Phira, Cheltis Shylla, Paul Danny Kharmudai, Gary Daniel L Mawlong, Ialamphang Kharkongor, Ferdinand Samkupar Rani, and Gregorwilson Makdoh. They will compete in the U-21 and senior categories, as well as team events.
The team’s participation in the national championship is a testament to the growing popularity of karate in Meghalaya and the state’s commitment to promoting the sport.
