Meghalaya Karatekas Sharpen Kumite Skills Under National Champion’s Guidance
Shillong: Shillong witnessed the commencement of a significant karate training camp yesterday, April 21st, as the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) initiated an intensive kumite session in Mawkhar. The focus of this dedicated training is to elevate the sparring prowess of karate practitioners across the state.
Spearheading this crucial initiative is none other than Pranay Sharma, a name synonymous with excellence in Indian karate. His remarkable achievements include securing the national championship title seven times, along with gold medals in prestigious events such as the Commonwealth Games, South Asian Games, World Karate Federation (WKF) Series A, and Khelo India. His wealth of experience promises invaluable insights for the participating athletes.
The Mawkhar Dorbar Shnong Community Hall has been transformed into a hub of martial arts training, hosting over 60 karatekas. Both budding talents and seasoned practitioners from various parts of Meghalaya have converged to hone their kumite techniques under Sharma’s expert tutelage. The camp is scheduled to continue until April 26th, providing ample time for skill development and knowledge transfer.
The opening ceremony of the training camp was graced by the presence of esteemed community leaders and karate association members. Mawkhar Assistant Rangbah Shnong, Ransom Sutnga, who also serves as the Mawkhar SC President, attended the event alongside senior figures from AMKA, underscoring the importance and support for this initiative in fostering karate within Meghalaya.
