Meghalaya: Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils to Elect Leadership Tomorrow

Shillong: After today’s oath-taking ceremonies, the newly sworn-in members of the Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils will meet tomorrow to elect their leadership.

The election proceedings will follow a similar schedule at both council halls. At 11:00 am, members will gather to elect their respective Council Chairmen, with the sessions being presided over by the Deputy Commissioners of East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills Districts.

Following the election of the Chairmen, the councils will reconvene at 2:00 pm to elect the Chief Executive Members (CEMs). These sessions will be overseen by the newly elected Chairmen.

The Chief Executive Member is the highest executive authority within each autonomous district council, responsible for governance, resource allocation, and handling tribal affairs.

These elections are the final step in constituting the new councils after the recent polls in the autonomous districts of Meghalaya. The results will determine the administrative direction and leadership for the councils during their upcoming term.
