Meghalaya: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Forms Delimitation Committee for Constituency Boundary Adjustments

Northeast Desk, 27th October: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has taken a significant step by establishing a Delimitation Committee tasked with reviewing requests for adjustments to constituency boundaries. This decision, aimed at ensuring effective representation and addressing local concerns, was announced by P.N Syiem, Deputy Chief Executive Member of KHADC.

Heading the committee as Chairman is Dr. S. Kharsyiemlieh, a retired Judge from the District Council Court. The committee comprises three additional members: Dr. S.L Marbaniang, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly; R. Myrboh, a retired School Teacher; and Dr. D.R.L Nonglait, a Professor in the Department of Khasi at North-Eastern Hill University. M. Kharkrang, a retired Secretary of KHADC, has been appointed as the Secretary to the committee.

Deputy Chief Executive Member Syiem explained that the decision to establish the Delimitation Committee was prompted by the receipt of more than 15 written applications from villages seeking adjustments or relocation of their constituencies. The process of reorganizing these constituencies will consider various factors, including population and geographical considerations. The final criteria for the adjustments will be determined by the committee.

The formation of this committee reflects the KHADC’s commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of its constituents while ensuring equitable and effective representation in the autonomous district council.
