Meghalaya: Laitkor SC Shocks Rangdajied, Langsning FC Thrashes Sawmer in Shillong Premier League

Shillong — Laitkor SC delivered a stunning 2-0 upset over Rangdajied United FC in Match 70 of the OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024 at SSA Stadium, Polo, severely denting RUFC’s title hopes. In the second fixture of the day, Langsning FC dismantled Sawmer SC with a commanding 5-0 victory, powered by a hat-trick from Dauruhipaia Pale.

Despite the dramatic results, the league standings remain unchanged. Rangdajied, sitting in third place, now faces an uphill task in the title race. To stay in contention, they must defeat both Mawlai SC and Shillong Lajong FC while hoping for unexpected slip-ups from the top two teams. Meanwhile, Sawmer’s relegation concerns deepened, as their nearest rivals have played two fewer matches. On the other hand, Laitkor and Langsning have all but secured their top-flight status for next season.

Laitkor wasted no time in unsettling Rangdajied, striking twice in quick succession. A costly error from RUFC goalkeeper Meshan Banjop Sumer resulted in a penalty in the 21st minute, which Risuk Malngiang calmly converted. Just two minutes later, Samborwell Mynsong pounced on a defensive lapse to fire home Laitkor’s second, leaving Rangdajied in shock. With key defenders Arlangky Nongsiej and Balamlynti Khongjee absent, RUFC struggled to mount a response, their attack appearing blunt throughout the contest.

Langsning FC’s dominance over Sawmer SC came in the second half with a relentless attacking display. The breakthrough came in the 48th minute when Dauruhipaia Pale found the net, swiftly followed by Daohipaia Rymbai’s strike a minute later. Pale completed his hat-trick with goals in the 51st and 61st minutes, his final strike a thunderous shot into the top corner that left Sawmer’s goalkeeper Edison Suna helpless.

Suna later denied Dajiedlang Wanshnong from the penalty spot in the 67th minute, but it did little to change the outcome. Lamgougin Khongsai added the finishing touch with a 90th-minute goal, sealing Langsning’s emphatic 5-0 victory.

The Shillong Premier League action continues today, with Nangkiew Irat SC set to face Nongthymmai SC at 3 pm.
