Meghalaya: Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem Highway to Undergo Periodic Closures for Repairs
Shillong: A 13-kilometre stretch of the Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem highway in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district will be subject to periodic traffic restrictions from June 9 to June 13. The Sub-Divisional Officer of Pynursla Civil Sub-Division has announced that the road will be closed to all vehicles during specific hours to address hazardous conditions that pose immediate safety risks to commuters.
The highway will be closed twice daily, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and again from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, allowing for essential morning and evening commuter traffic while providing sufficient daylight hours for repair work. The closures are necessary to improve the highway infrastructure and prioritise public safety.
The affected stretch covers chainage kilometres 24+00 to 37+00, and local authorities have urged travellers to adjust their schedules accordingly and seek alternate routes during the restricted hours. The five-day closure period is designed to minimise disruption while allowing contractors to complete critical safety improvements.
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance and take note of the scheduled closures to avoid inconvenience.
