Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to Convene for Autumn Session from August 23

Northeast Desk, 27th July: Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma announced that the autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will take place from August 23 to 30. This five-day session will be structured with three days allocated for government business and two days for private members’ business.

The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) approved the session calendar, maintaining a similar structure to the previous year, according to Sangma. He mentioned that the session’s schedule had been adjusted after reviewing last year’s session.

Sangma also confirmed that Congress leader Ronnie V. Lyngdoh will continue in his role as Leader of Opposition, with no changes expected in this position.

Regarding the construction of the new Assembly building, Sangma noted that progress has been delayed. The ongoing issue with migrant laborer licenses has reduced the workforce from 200 to 50. While acknowledging the delays, Sangma did not directly attribute them to the recent pressure group activities but indicated that the project will not be completed within the initially speculated timeframe.
