Northeast Desk, 14th October: A massive fire broke out at Payal Cinema, located adjacent to Congress Bhawan on Thana Road in Police Bazar, Shillong, on a Saturday afternoon.
As per reports, the cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained, but there are suspicions that it might have been caused by the explosion of a cooking gas cylinder.
The fire department arrived at the scene swiftly to bring the fire under control.
The fire broke out at around 1:45 pm. The building, where the fire occurred, is reported to belong to an individual named Amit Singhania.
As per the latest information, two people were feared to be trapped inside the building; however, their status was not confirmed at the time of filing this report.
The building also houses the Singhania printing press.
