Meghalaya: Mehtab Chandee A Sangma Sworn in as Gambegre MLA, Vows Development and Women’s Empowerment

Meghalaya: Mehtab Chandee A Sangma, the newly elected MLA from Gambegre constituency, took her oath as a member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on November 27.

The swearing-in ceremony, held in the presence of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and senior leaders of the National People’s Party (NPP), was officiated by Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Thomas K. Sangma.

Following the ceremony, Mehtab Chandee Sangma pledged her commitment to addressing the developmental challenges facing Gambegre, one of the more underdeveloped constituencies in the Garo Hills region. She outlined her priorities, focusing on improving essential infrastructure such as healthcare facilities, road connectivity, and electricity, all of which remain significant challenges in the area.

Acknowledging the demanding nature of political life, Chandee expressed her determination to meet the expectations of her constituents. “The trust placed in me is a great responsibility, and I aim to deliver results that positively impact the lives of the people in Gambegre,” she said.

She also highlighted the pressing need to increase female participation in politics. Reflecting on the historical underrepresentation of women in leadership roles, Chandee emphasized the importance of equality and encouraged more women to actively engage in the political sphere. “Women are equal stakeholders in shaping society. I hope my journey inspires more women to step forward and contribute to governance and decision-making,” she added.

Chandee’s election represents a step toward addressing both regional development issues and the broader need for gender inclusivity in Meghalaya’s political landscape.
