Meghalaya: Mehtab Chandee Sangma of NPP Emerges Victorious in Gambegre Bypoll
Tura– The National People’s Party (NPP) has taken an early lead in the Gambegre constituency bypolls after three rounds of vote counting.
With a total of 26,461 votes tallied so far, NPP’s Dr. Mehtab Chandee A. Sangma has emerged as the frontrunner, securing 3,885 votes.
Following closely are AITC’s Sadhiarani M. Sangma with 2,428 votes and Congress’ Jingjang M. Marak with 2,050 votes. BJP’s Bernard N. Marak has received 287 votes, while Independent candidates Jerry A. Sangma and Sengkrabirth M. Marak have garnered 193 and 46 votes, respectively. Additionally, 26 votes have been cast for NOTA (None of the Above).
The Gambegre constituency recorded an impressive voter turnout of 90.93% during the November 13 polling, with 33,088 registered voters participating. The breakdown of votes per round shows 8,433 votes counted in Round 1, 9,113 in Round 2, and 8,915 in Round 3.
While NPP holds a clear advantage at this stage, further rounds of counting will determine the final outcome in this keenly contested bypoll.
