Meghalaya: MIDC Chairman Discusses Progress of New PepsiCo Plant in Garo Hills

Northeast Desk, 11th July: James Sangma, Chairman of the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), held crucial discussions on July 11 with senior executives from Varun Beverages Ltd, the bottling partner of PepsiCo in India. The meeting centered on the development of Varun Beverages’ new plant in Mendipathar, Garo Hills.

Scheduled to become the largest Pepsi facility in Northeast India, the plant is anticipated to generate significant employment opportunities in the region.

During the talks, Sangma and the MIDC team deliberated on strategies to facilitate the seamless implementation of the project and ensure the timely commencement of its initial phase.

“This initiative holds immense potential to create numerous jobs for our youth in Garo Hills and provide indirect support to many livelihoods,” Sangma remarked, highlighting the positive economic impact anticipated from the venture.

The discussions underscored the commitment of both parties to advancing industrial growth in Meghalaya while fostering socio-economic development in the state.
