Meghalaya Minister Defends Police, Slams False Allegations in Wei Sawdong Murder Case

Shillong: In the wake of high-profile arrests linked to the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was found in a gorge near Meghalaya’s Wei Sawdong waterfall, senior BJP legislator and Cabinet Minister AL Hek has come out strongly in defence of the state police and government.

Addressing recent accusations made by the family of Raja Raghuvanshi—particularly against the Meghalaya Police—Hek condemned what he called “shameful” attempts to malign the state’s image. “Their whole family is blaming the police of Meghalaya. They’re blaming the government of Meghalaya, and particularly, it’s very shameful to blame the people of Meghalaya,” the minister said.

Praising the swift action by law enforcement, Hek added, “They have done an excellent job. Within seven days, they have arrested the culprits. I really bravo the Meghalaya police. They have done their best to nab the culprit.”

The minister also raised the possibility of legal recourse against those accusing the state unfairly. “We should file defamation cases against those who are spreading false allegations and maligning the reputation of Meghalaya and its citizens,” he said.

The investigation has so far led to the arrest of Sonam Raghuvanshi—wife of the deceased—and several hired contract killers from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, intensifying public interest and scrutiny in the sensational murder case.
