Meghalaya: Minister Denies Involvement in Fatal Accident, Claims Baseless Allegations
Shillong: Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has refuted claims that he was part of a VIP convoy that led to a fatal road accident on November 15.
The incident, which occurred near the ICAR complex, resulted in the death of a two-wheeler rider, Hudderfield Rymbui, and injuries to his pillion rider.
According to reports, Rymbui was on his way to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Bhoirymbong when the accident took place. Eyewitness accounts suggest that a police escort vehicle leading a VIP convoy struck the motorcycle, causing the fatal accident.
Lyngdoh, however, dismissed these allegations as baseless. He clarified that several vehicles, including Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s convoy, were delayed due to heavy traffic congestion. The minister further asserted that the slow pace of the convoy made it impossible for any vehicle to have hit the motorcycle. He speculated that the accident might have been caused by the high speed of the two-wheeler itself.
Local authorities are investigating the matter to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
